I am "lucky" enough to be just the right generation to both be able to remember the times before we all had out heads in a smart phone, and also to have used them, from their early days and until now. As with many other things, I felt like I had enough to say about that to write a book.
Is it harmful to be so obsessed with the online life? Or is it just simply a shift in how we do things that us older people don't quite appreciate? Clearly, I have some thoughts on that! I can't imagine what it's like to not know a time before cell phones, and certainly smart phones. What is "life" like for those, who have grown up with this technology, with this focus on social media, with all its advantages as well as disadvantages? Are some of us making it a bigger deal than it needs to be, when "kids" nowadays spend a vast number of hours on these things? Or is there, like with so many other things, especially in the United States, a deeper, underlying effect there, that maybe isn't so great?
As my title hints, obviously I might not think it's good to spend too much time with your online life, but why do I think that? What has caused me to think this way? That's what I want to explore here. And whether you agree with me or not, at least I hope it will be interesting to you to see a different approach to all this, no matter what.
To be published in 2026
This book has not yet been completed. But do check in from time to time to see when it will be finished. I expect to have it ready by summer 2026.
